Who Uses a Word Counter?
Students & Academic Writers
Essays, dissertations, and assignments almost always come with a word count requirement. Know exactly where you stand without switching to a separate app β and spot keyword repetition before submitting.
Content Creators & Bloggers
SEO research consistently shows that long-form content (1,500+ words) ranks better. Track your draft length in real time, check keyword density, and estimate how long readers will spend on the page.
Social Media Managers
Every platform has a different limit. The built-in progress bars for X (280), Meta description (160), Instagram (2,200), and LinkedIn (3,000) turn red the moment you go over β no mental arithmetic needed.
Public Speakers & Podcasters
A script at 130 wpm gives you a reliable speaking time estimate. Draft a 10-minute conference talk, a 5-minute podcast intro, or a 30-second elevator pitch and hit your slot on the first try.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my text get sent to a server?
No. All counting and analysis happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device β there are no server requests of any kind.
How is word count calculated?
Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines). Each continuous sequence of non-whitespace characters counts as one word. Hyphenated words like "well-known" count as one word.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time uses the widely cited average of 200 words per minute for silent reading. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, a common pace for clear verbal presentations.
What does "stop words hidden" do in the keyword list?
Stop words are common English words (the, a, is, of, andβ¦) that appear frequently but carry little meaning. Hiding them shows you the meaningful keywords in your text β useful for SEO and content analysis.
What are the platform character limits shown?
The tool shows progress bars for X (Twitter) at 280, Meta description at 160, Instagram caption at 2,200, and LinkedIn post at 3,000 characters. The bars turn amber when you approach the limit and red when you exceed it.
How are sentences counted?
Sentences are detected by periods, exclamation marks, and question marks. Text without any sentence-ending punctuation counts as one sentence. Ellipses ("...") are treated as a single sentence terminator.
Is there a character or word limit?
No. Because everything runs locally in your browser, there is no upload size limit. The counter handles documents of any length β paste an entire book chapter if you need to.
