Tips for Best Results

Remove the background first

Use our AI Background Remover to isolate your subject before vectorizing. Solid-color or transparent backgrounds produce much cleaner SVG paths.

Use B&W mode for cutting machines

Cricut and Silhouette work best with single-color SVGs. B&W mode produces the cleanest, most cuttable paths.

Start with a small speckle filter

Begin at 4px and increase if the output has too many tiny shapes. This removes noise without losing important detail.

Simple images vectorize best

Logos, clipart, icons, and line drawings convert beautifully. Complex photographs will be simplified into a posterized illustration style.

Limitations

  • Very large images (>5 MP) may be slow or cause the browser tab to run out of memory.
  • Photographs produce posterized/simplified SVGs โ€” this tool is optimized for logos, illustrations, and line art.
  • SVG file size grows with image complexity โ€” a photo may produce an SVG larger than the original raster.
  • Text in images is traced as paths, not editable text elements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my images get uploaded to a server?

No. SimpleTool loads the vtracer vectorization engine as a WebAssembly module in your browser. All image processing happens on your device โ€” no network request is ever made with your image data.

Can I use the SVG output with Cricut or Silhouette?

Yes. The SVG output uses clean path elements without clipping masks, gradients, or embedded images โ€” exactly what Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Studio need. Use B&W mode with a higher speckle filter for the cleanest cut files.

What is the difference between Color and B&W mode?

B&W mode converts your image to a two-tone silhouette (black and white) before tracing โ€” ideal for logos, line art, and cutting machine files. Color mode preserves multiple colors by clustering similar pixels together, producing a posterized SVG with separate colored paths.

How large an image can I vectorize?

Images up to about 5 megapixels (e.g. 2500ร—2000) work well. Very large photos may slow the browser or run out of memory. For best results with large images, resize them first using the Image Resizer, then vectorize.

Why does my SVG file look "posterized" or simplified?

Vector tracing converts continuous-tone photos into discrete shapes โ€” some simplification is inherent. Increase the color count for more detail in color mode, or lower the speckle filter to keep finer features. SVG vectorization works best with logos, illustrations, clipart, and clean line art rather than photographic images.

Can I vectorize multiple images at once?

Yes. Drop up to 100 images at once and they will be processed sequentially. Download each SVG individually or grab them all as a single ZIP file.

Is this really free with no limits?

Yes โ€” no watermarks, no daily caps, no account required, no premium tier. The vectorization engine runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly, so there are no server costs to pass along.
