Common use cases
Email attachments
Most mail clients reject files over 10 MB total. Use Email-safe mode to keep every photo under 1 MB without touching quality manually.
WhatsApp & social sharing
WhatsApp recompresses images over 1.6 MB — run the WhatsApp preset first so you control the quality instead of the app doing it badly.
Website & blog images
A hero image larger than 200 KB adds measurable LCP time. Use Web mode or switch to WebP for the best quality-to-size ratio.
Bulk photo cleanup
Drop a folder of photos, set a target, download the ZIP — 100 photos compressed to email-safe in under a minute, all without leaving your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All compression uses the HTML5 Canvas API running entirely in your browser tab. Your images never leave your device — the compressed version is created locally and downloaded directly to you.
What is "target size" mode?
Instead of choosing a quality number, you set a file size limit (e.g. Email-safe < 1 MB, Web < 200 KB). The tool automatically runs a binary search across quality values to find the highest quality that still fits under your target — so you get maximum clarity within the constraint.
Why does switching to WebP save more space?
WebP uses a more modern compression algorithm than JPEG. At the same visual quality, a WebP file is typically 25–35% smaller than the equivalent JPEG. The badge shows the exact saving for your specific image before you commit to switching.
Does compressing an image also strip EXIF metadata?
Yes. Because compression works by drawing the image to an HTML5 Canvas and re-encoding it, all EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, camera serial number, timestamps — is stripped automatically. This is a privacy benefit on top of the size reduction.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Drop more than one image to switch to bulk mode. The tool processes up to four files simultaneously and shows a results table with before/after sizes for each file. Download the full batch as a single ZIP.
What happens if the target size is too small?
If even the lowest quality setting can't hit your target (e.g. you ask for 10 KB from a 5 MB photo), the tool compresses to the minimum quality it can and returns that result. The stats row will show how small it actually got.
