Known limitations

  • No animated GIF or AVIF support — this tool handles static JPG, PNG, and WebP images.
  • PNG → JPG loses transparency — transparent areas become white. If you need transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
  • Very large images (50+ MP) may cause the browser to run out of memory. Process huge files in smaller batches.
  • Color profile conversion — the canvas re-encode uses sRGB. Images with wide-gamut profiles (P3, Adobe RGB) will be mapped to sRGB.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. SimpleTool converts images using the HTML5 Canvas API entirely in your browser. Your photos stay in RAM on your device and are released when you close the tab. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or retained.

Will converting from PNG to JPG lose quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so there is slight quality reduction — controlled by the quality slider. At 90-95% quality the difference is imperceptible for photos. For pixel-perfect output, convert to PNG instead.

Can I convert a whole folder of images at once?

Yes. Drag and drop up to 500 images into the converter. Each file is processed sequentially in your browser. Download them individually or grab the whole batch as a ZIP.

Why can't I upload a WebP image to Etsy / eBay / WordPress?

Many platforms still only accept JPG and PNG. WebP is a newer format developed by Google — widely supported in browsers but not yet accepted by all upload forms. Convert your WebP files to JPG using this tool.

Does conversion strip EXIF and GPS metadata?

Yes. The canvas re-encode implicitly drops all EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata including GPS coordinates, camera serial numbers, and timestamps. This is a privacy benefit — your location data is removed automatically.

What is the maximum file size?

There is no file size limit per image. Very large images (over 50 megapixels) may cause the browser tab to run out of memory. For best results with huge files, process them in smaller batches.

JPG vs PNG vs WebP — which format should I use?

JPG: best for photos where small file size matters (email, social media). PNG: best when you need lossless quality or transparency (logos, screenshots, print). WebP: best for web uploads — ~30% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality, supported by all modern browsers.
