How to generate citations
- Choose a citation style — APA 7, MLA 9, or Chicago 17 — using the tabs at the top.
- Paste one or more sources into the input box: a webpage URL, a DOI (e.g.
10.1000/xyz123), or an ISBN (e.g.9780143127741). One per line for batch entry. - Click Look up sources — metadata is fetched automatically and a citation is generated for each source.
- Expand any card and edit the fields if the auto-filled details need correcting.
- Switch citation styles at any time — all cards update instantly.
- Click Copy all to copy the full bibliography, or Download .txt to save it.
Why use this tool?
- Batch input — paste an entire reading list and look up all sources at once instead of one by one.
- Instant style switching — toggle APA, MLA, and Chicago without re-entering anything. All sources reformat immediately.
- DOI & ISBN lookup — academic papers via CrossRef and books via Open Library are auto-filled with accurate metadata.
- Manual entry — for sources that can't be looked up automatically, fill in a short form to generate a properly formatted citation.
- Editable fields — if auto-detected metadata is wrong, click "Edit fields" on any card and correct it in place.
- 100% private — no files are uploaded. URL metadata is fetched server-side and nothing is stored.
Supported citation styles
- APA 7th edition — used in psychology, social sciences, education, and STEM. Last-name, initials format with year in parentheses.
- MLA 9th edition — common in humanities, literature, and language arts. Author last name first, title in quotes or italics.
- Chicago 17th edition (notes-bibliography style) — used in history, arts, and some social sciences. Supports full author names.
