Can SimpleTool open password-encrypted Excel files?
SimpleTool removes sheet-level and workbook-level protection (the kind that prevents editing). If the file requires a password to open (file-level AES encryption), the content is encrypted and cannot be processed in the browser — you'll need a desktop tool like Excel itself.
Do my spreadsheets get uploaded to a server?
No. All Excel processing uses SheetJS and zip.js running as JavaScript/WebAssembly in your browser. Your files never leave your device — no network request is made during processing.
What Excel formats are supported?
All free tools support .xlsx (Excel 2007+) and .xlsm (macro-enabled). The Keyword Formatter and Comparer work with .xlsx and .xlsm. Legacy .xls (Excel 97-2003) is not supported.
How does the Excel Merger handle mismatched headers?
The merger previews column-header alignment across all files before merging. Mismatched columns are flagged with a warning. You can switch to position-based merge for unstructured sheets.
