When You Need Face Blur

Posting to Reddit, Forums & Social Media

Anonymize bystanders, children, or yourself before sharing photos publicly. The irony of uploading your photo to a blurring service defeats the purpose.

Real Estate & Property Listings

Blur faces of tenants, neighbors, or passersby in property photos before listing them on Zillow, Redfin, or your agency website.

Journalism & Reporting

Protect the identity of sources, minors, or bystanders in news photos. Process sensitive images without sending them through third-party servers.

GDPR & Privacy Compliance

European data protection rules require consent for identifiable photos. Blur faces in workplace, event, or street photography to stay compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my photos get uploaded to a server?

No. SimpleTool loads the MediaPipe BlazeFace AI model as a WebAssembly module in your browser. Face detection and blurring happen entirely on your device โ€” no photo data ever leaves your browser.

How does the face detection work?

The tool uses Google's MediaPipe BlazeFace model (224 KB), a lightweight neural network optimized for real-time face detection. It runs via WebAssembly in your browser and detects face bounding boxes with 6 facial keypoints. The first image takes a few seconds while the model loads; subsequent images are faster.

What blur styles are available?

Three styles: Pixelate (mosaic blocks โ€” the classic censoring look), Gaussian Blur (smooth, natural-looking blur), and Black Box (solid black rectangle). You can adjust the pixel size, blur radius, and region padding.

What if it misses a face or detects a false positive?

Adjust the Detection Sensitivity slider. Lower values detect more faces (but may include false positives). Higher values are more precise (but may miss faces that are small, tilted, or partially occluded). You can also increase the Region Padding to ensure blur covers the full face area.

Can I blur faces in multiple photos at once?

Yes. Drop up to 100 photos at once. Each is processed sequentially with the same settings. Download individually or grab all results as a ZIP.

What about license plates and other text?

This tool specifically detects faces using an AI model trained for face detection. It does not automatically detect license plates or other objects. For general redaction of text or specific areas, see our Secure PDF Redactor tool.

Does it work on group photos?

Yes. The detector can find multiple faces in a single image. All detected faces are blurred with your chosen style and settings. For large group photos, lower the detection sensitivity to catch smaller faces.
