Contracts, reports, legal docs — any PDF with hidden metadata
What is hiding in your PDF?
Every PDF you create or export silently stores a fingerprint of who made it and when. Open any PDF in Acrobat, go to File → Properties → Description, and you will see fields like Author (your real name), Creator (the application you used), Producer (the export engine), and exact timestamps down to the second.
Most PDFs also carry an XMP metadata stream — an XML blob embedded in the document catalog. Standard PDF viewers hide it, but forensic tools read it instantly. XMP can contain additional author information, original file paths, and version history that DocInfo alone does not expose.
SimpleTool strips both layers: the DocInfo dictionary and the XMP stream. What you see in the reveal panel is exactly what gets removed.
See before you scrub
The tool reveals every non-empty metadata field — author, creator app, creation date, modification date, keywords — highlighted in amber if sensitive. No surprises.
DocInfo + XMP — both gone
Most tools only clear the visible DocInfo fields. This tool also deletes the XMP metadata stream from the document catalog, which forensic tools use to recover hidden data.
Bulk — up to 10 PDFs
Drop an entire batch of contracts, reports, or discovery documents. Each file is revealed individually, then all are scrubbed and packaged into a single ZIP download.
Who needs to scrub PDF metadata?
Journalists and whistleblowers
Leaking a PDF with your name as author or your employer's software in the Creator field puts you at risk. Strip all fingerprints before distribution.
Lawyers and legal teams
Discovery documents must be produced without metadata revealing drafting history, authors, or modification sequences. Bulk-scrub entire document sets before production.
Freelancers and consultants
Proposals and reports often embed your name and the exact moment you finished them. Remove timestamps and author fields before sending to clients.
HR and recruiting teams
Anonymised CVs for blind hiring should carry no author metadata that could reveal candidate identity before the review stage.
Researchers and academics
Double-blind peer review submissions must not carry author metadata. Strip DocInfo and XMP before submitting to journals.
General privacy
Any PDF you share publicly — from a rental listing to a community newsletter — may expose your name and software stack. Clean it before posting.
