What is favicon.ico and do I still need it?
favicon.ico is the original multi-size icon format used by browsers for decades. Modern browsers prefer PNG or SVG favicons, but favicon.ico is still needed as a fallback — especially for older browsers, email clients, bookmarks, and desktop shortcuts on Windows.
