Free Image Redactor

Auto-Detect · 100% Private · No Uploads · No Account

Drop a screenshot or photo and let AI automatically find faces, QR codes, and personal information to redact. Review suggested boxes, add manual ones, then download the clean image — all without leaving your browser.

100% private — your image never leaves your device.

Face detection, QR scanning, and OCR all run locally via WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded.

How It Works

1

Drop your image

Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP photo or screenshot. The image loads entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

2

Review detections

Three scanners run in parallel: MediaPipe BlazeFace for faces, jsQR for QR codes, and Tesseract OCR for PII text. Suggested boxes appear as overlays on the image. Click any box to accept or dismiss it, or draw additional boxes manually.

3

Apply & download

Choose Black Box, Pixelate, or Blur style, then click "Apply & Download". The redacted JPG is saved directly to your device — the original is untouched.

When to Use an Image Redactor

Bug reports & screenshots

Remove email addresses, usernames, API keys, or account numbers from screenshots before filing support tickets or sharing publicly.

Social media & public posts

Blur faces of bystanders, children, or colleagues before posting group photos on social media or news sites.

Document photos

Redact SSNs, credit card numbers, or signatures from photos of invoices, contracts, or ID documents before sending over email.

QR codes in photos

Black out QR codes in event photos or product shots that could reveal private URLs, Wi-Fi passwords, or personal tracking links.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my photos get uploaded to a server?

No. All processing — face detection, QR scanning, and OCR — runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image data never leaves your device.

What kinds of sensitive content does the tool detect automatically?

Three types: (1) Faces — detected using the MediaPipe BlazeFace AI model. (2) QR codes — scanned with jsQR from raw pixel data. (3) PII text — OCR via Tesseract.js identifies patterns like email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, SSNs, passport numbers, and IP addresses.

What if the auto-detection misses something?

Use Draw mode to manually add redaction boxes anywhere on the image. Click and drag to place a box over any area the automatic detection missed.

Can I dismiss false positives?

Yes. Click any highlighted box on the image to cycle through states: pending → accepted → dismissed. Dismissed boxes are excluded from the redacted output.

What redaction styles are available?

Three styles: Black Box (solid black fill), Pixelate (mosaic blocks), and Blur (Gaussian blur). All styles permanently modify the image pixels in the download.

Why does OCR take a few seconds?

OCR uses Tesseract.js, a WebAssembly port of the Tesseract OCR engine. On first use it downloads a ~6 MB language pack and caches it in your browser. Subsequent runs reuse the cache and are faster.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, and WebP. One image at a time. The redacted image is always downloaded as a JPG.
